Why Orifold?
Orifold makes three trade-offs on purpose, not by accident.
Rented vs. owned
Section titled “Rented vs. owned”Subscription PDF tools are genuinely excellent — polished, well-supported, constantly updated. Orifold bets on a different model: you own the app outright, for free, forever. That means slower feature velocity than a funded product team, in exchange for never renting access to your own files back.
Cloud vs. local
Section titled “Cloud vs. local”Cloud processing enables real-time collaboration, and some workflows need that. Orifold trades collaboration for absolute privacy — nothing you do in Orifold ever leaves your Mac, which also means no shared review sessions or live co-editing.
Platform vs. product
Section titled “Platform vs. product”Orifold does one thing: fold messy files into one clean PDF. It isn’t trying to become a platform, an office suite, or a cloud service. That focus is deliberate.
Who Orifold is not for
Section titled “Who Orifold is not for”Being honest about scope is part of the trust: Orifold isn’t the right tool for teams that need real-time collaborative review, and it’s macOS-only — there’s no Windows or iPad version today.
