Search & replace

When to use this

You’re looking for a word or phrase somewhere in your workspace — or want to update it across your comments.

Press ⌘F to open search. It searches across every document currently imported into the workspace, not just the page you’re viewing. Every match on the page is highlighted at once, and the one you’re on stays visually distinct from the rest. Use ⌘G and ⌘⇧G to step through matches.

While a scan is still running, the panel says Searching… — it won’t tell you there are no results until it has actually finished looking.

Each result is labelled with its position in the workspace, so clicking one lands where the number said it would. If the source document carries its own page numbering, that follows the position — Page 12 · A-7.

Note

Scanned pages have no searchable text until you run OCR on them.

Close the search popover and a counter chip stays behind in the bottom bar, showing N of M for the current query with next, previous, and clear controls. ⌘G keeps working from there, and you can see where it’s taking you.

Reveal the replace options from the search bar to update matching text. Replace one match at a time, or Replace All… with a confirmation step (undoable in one step).

Warning

Replace edits your own comments only. Matches inside the PDF’s page text are find-only — Orifold won’t rewrite the source document’s text through search. To change text on the page itself, use Edit existing PDF text.
