v0.8.1 — Hardened, verified, and honestly numbered
Released July 2026
Orifold is in beta. v0.8.1 marks the move to semantic versioning — the v0.1–v0.7 line continues here as focused polish, validation, and user-flow hardening on the road to 1.0.
v0.8.1 has no single headline feature. Instead it hardens everything v0.7 shipped — signing, the qpdf engine, the companions, localization — under real use, and gives the documentation the overhaul it was overdue for.
- Signing, made trustworthy — async signing with a working cancel button, a TSA fallback chain with a provider picker, certificate trust/revocation checks, persistent certificate profiles, and a post-export structural self-check. See Sign a document.
- Toolbar and sidebar redesign — a consolidated, responsive toolbar with Find & Replace and a dedicated Settings window; a redesigned sidebar with better undo grouping and performance. See The Orifold window.
- Keyboard shortcuts overhauled to match macOS conventions, with a new cheat sheet. See Keyboard shortcuts.
- Document Comfort replaces Night Mode — four reading presets (Default, Night, Eye Care, Focus) plus warmth, brightness, and contrast controls. See Document Comfort.
- Folder import added to the intro screen and Add Files menu. See Import files.
- Companions are bigger and more detailed — both pets dock and hover larger so their folded-paper texture actually reads, and the first-launch companion shows off at full size for a few seconds before settling into its corner (hover it anytime to see that detail again; Reduce Motion skips the showcase). See Meet Gami & Ori.
- Two rounds of locale-staleness fixes across companions, toolbar messages, and popovers, plus a fixed language-selector z-order bug. See Change the app language.
- A full documentation site rebuild with in-app links from the Help menu — the pages you’re reading now.
