Compress a PDF

Advanced workflow
When to use this

A PDF is too large to email or upload, usually because it’s full of high-resolution images or scans.

  1. Open the file in your workspace.
  2. Choose Compress from the export or document menu.
  3. Export — Orifold downsamples oversized images, then losslessly repacks the file’s internal structure with a qpdf object-stream pass.
Note

Compression validates the result automatically after the pass completes, before the file reaches disk.

Tip

Text-only PDFs barely shrink — compression mainly helps files with large embedded images or scans.

A smaller file that opens and displays identically, aside from slightly softer high-resolution images.
