Add new text boxes

When to use this
  • The page has no existing text where you need it (a blank form field, a margin note, a stamp-like label).
  • Editing detected text isn’t activating, or the line you need doesn’t exist yet.
Which do I want?

Changing a word that’s already on the page → edit existing text. Adding words where none exist → a text box, below.

  1. Select the text box tool from the annotation toolbar.
  2. Click on the page where you want the box to start.
  3. Type your text.
  4. Drag the box’s handles to move or resize it.

A new text box sits on the page exactly where you placed it, independent of the PDF’s original content.
