Opening locked PDFs
When to use this
You’re importing a PDF that already has a password on it.
- Import the file as usual — drag it in or use Add Files.
- Orifold shows a password prompt — enter the password to unlock it.
- The file’s permissions (printing, editing, and so on) are respected once unlocked.
Opening one from Finder or the File menu
Section titled “Opening one from Finder or the File menu”Double-clicking a password-protected PDF in Finder, or opening it through File → Open, gets Orifold’s own explanation of what the file is and why it can’t open straight away — not a generic macOS error. Open Recent goes further: pick a locked PDF there and Orifold takes you into the password prompt automatically instead of dead-ending.
Note
The same path classifies other awkward files. A corrupt, oversized, or empty PDF opened by double-click gets a message naming the actual problem rather than a generic failure.
What you should see
Section titled “What you should see”The file opens into your workspace like any other import, fully editable within the permissions it was granted.
